Empty legs, without the fantasy.

Every empty leg is a side effect of someone else’s trip. An aircraft drops its client in Palm Beach and must return to base in Teterboro; the operator would rather sell that ferry flight at a discount than fly it empty. This is real. Discounts of 25 to 75% off spot charter are genuine and happen daily on dense corridors. Most of the rest of what you have read about them is marketing.

Why the discount exists

The operator’s alternative revenue for a ferry flight is zero, so any price above fuel and fees is found money. You are not buying a charter. You are buying a seat on a repositioning that was going to happen anyway, and that distinction drives every rule below.

The rules of the game

Where they cluster

Empty legs concentrate where wealthy traffic is dense and directional: New York to Florida (the deepest market in the world), Los Angeles to Las Vegas, London to Nice, Paris to the Riviera, London to Geneva in ski season, and London to Dubai on the seasonal migration. Our route guides flag the corridors with real supply.

How to play it

  1. Be genuinely flexible on date and time; a plus-or-minus 24 hour window multiplies your hits.
  2. Ask brokers to watch both directions of your corridor. Repositioning cuts both ways.
  3. Confirm cancellation terms in writing: refund is standard, re-accommodation is not.
  4. Treat any empty leg as a bonus on top of a plan that works without it.
  5. Price the alternative first. On short legs, minimum billing means the 60%-off empty leg is sometimes barely cheaper than a turboprop charter you control completely. Check with the Route Estimator.

Who this is for

Retirees, remote workers, flexible couples, positioning-savvy families: excellent. Anyone flying to a wedding, a closing, or a surgery: absolutely not. The discount is real, and so is the reliability discount. Know which one you are buying.
